Though classically trained in his youth, Sergio's artistic trajectory took a transformative turn during his university years. The discovery of musicians like Nils Frahm, Max Richter and Ólafur Arnalds sparked a revelation, inspiring him to venture into composition. His horizons further expanded as he fell in love with genre-hopping musicians like Sufjan Stevens, whose album Carrie & Lowell profoundly affected him, and Keaton Henson, whose 2014 collaborative album Romantic Works inspired him to craft his debut record.
In 2015, Sergio self-released his debut album Unsaid Words. Its yearning arpeggios, evocative melodies and mastery of mood quickly introduced his talents. Pieces like Serendipity and Calmness revealed his knack for pairing neoclassical composition with found sounds, while the mournful cello of Nature hearkened back to 19th-century chamber music. Subsequently, he released three EPs: December 03 (2016), brought to life in a single afternoon; The Morning is a River (2017), a collaborative project with German visual artist Seraphina Theresa that contained four piano pieces accompanied by filmed reflections of slow-moving images, a photo series, and a poem, released on a very limited cassette edition; and Postcards (2020), a contemplative exploration of solitude, heavily inspired by Chopin, and etched onto a limited 7-inch vinyl edition.
With over twenty million streams worldwide, several concerts around Europe and South America, and collaborations with record labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, 7K! and LEITER Verlag, Sergio’s second full-length album Muerte en una tarde de verano was released on the 10th of March 2023 via Nettwerk Music Group. The release was accompanied by a forty-minute-long film, two handcrafted vinyl editions, an exclusive CD edition for Japan, a collaboration with American singer-songwriter Lo-Fang, and a European tour.
In the eight years since his debut album, Sergio has relocated from Peru to Germany. He also fell in love with ambient music, particularly the works of Japanese composers like Haruomi Hosono and Hiroshi Yoshimura, who helped inspire the minimalistic hush of his own work.
